Easter on it's way !!

                               Easters on it's way

Hello hello.  Easter is almost here and I am so sad that I did not get any Easter art finished.  Things just did not work out.  It was just one thing after another.  Not good things, bad things.  My husband said that he felt my heart was not in Easter.  My love of Christmas and Halloween overshadowed Easter.  Maybe he is right.  I have various Easter  pieces, half finished, all over my workshop. I want to clear it all out and start my Uncle Sam, Santa's, and Halloween men, and Witches.

I am working on 2 stuffed Bunnies for my Grand daughters.  I'll get some pictures up as soon as I can.  Lindsey wants a pink one and Lauren wants a blue one.  Oh, they want a basket on his back.   They even told me what they want inside their basket.  They are only 5 .

               Santa's and Halloween Men

I  have Santa's stripped pants made and great old flannel, in a dull blue, for the jacket.  He will be just great.  I am also making tons of Santa candy containers, with my hand sculpted faces.  These little faces look like Elves. In fact some will be elves.

I hope you like the new look of my blog.  I worked on it over the weekend.  I also trying to figure out how to have 2 small columns on each side of the middle.  And, now the list of my post have disappeared.  Yikes !!!  What do I do?

Ok,  going to my workshop.  I am going to try to finish my 2 bunnies for Lindsey Grace and Lauren Noel.   Grandma loves you. !!

Easter & Snow

                                         Easter & Snow

Can't tell you how many times in my life that I had to wear my winter coat to church on Easter Day.  I can't tell you, how many times it snowed, on Easter Day.  So, I am not going to tell you, because that will be given away my age.  lol

As a child I remember always having  little white gloves to wear to church.  They were the icing, on the Easter outfit.

We always got a Easter Basket filled with chocolate and anything else my mom liked.  (Black jellybeans. )
We had little 8 inch paper mache standing rabbit.  They all were a different color.  Mostly they were white.  He had a basket on his back and it was always filled with something.  I think that was from Mom & Dad.

My 2  grand daughters wanted a Easter Bunny with a basket on his back.  Lauren wants Chocolate kisses in hers and Lindsey wants jellybeans.  I have looked for years for something similar to those containers.

I guess what I am leading up to is trying to figure out a way to make something like this.  It could be a rabbit or a pastel sheep.  I settled on the sheep.  My mind is occupied everyday trying to devise a way to make this container that opens, with a candy surprise inside.
will I ever do it.  You bet. !!  Not on the large scale that I would like but at least for my grand daughters.

My Easter stuff is not on my blog or facebook site yet.  Just been so cold, hard to go to the shop and work.  Once I get there, I am fine.  It is the trip I dread.

I will let you know when the Easter things are ready.  As for my Candy Containers, keep posted.  they will get developed.

Large Candy Container Santa

                     Large Candy Container Santa

This Santa is 18 inches tall and is a wonderful Candy Container.  The container is 4 inches across and 7 inches deep.  You can put more then candy in here.  His coat is hand dyed, in a rare teal color.  This is a most sought after color for Santa.

His beard is rabbit fur and so are his eyebrows.

His Candy Container is covered in a distressed paper.

He has paper mache boots from Germany.  They are still made today the way they were 100 years ago.

He is holding a large, 5 inch, handmade goose feather tree.

A handmade goose feather tree.

Rabbit fur beard.

This Santa is on Facebook right now.

This is the White Hooded Santa.

His hood was made from a vintage, white, swing coat.

This  trim  is made of tiny, vintage, pine cones and berry pips.  It is very cold, so his hood is crusted with German glass glitter.
Santa is hold a real miniature Putz or glitter house.  It is the perfect size for him.

Detail detail.  That is what make my Santa's stand out from the rest.

I am on ebay also but you have to do a search for seller.  DKVintageHoilday

Hope you have a good Sunday.  I hope the people who are getting blasted with Nemo are digging out already.  Peace.

Guess who is here?  Yep, it is, The Old German Santa's.  Just showed up on Sunday.

What wonderful toys they have to give out to the good children.  These 2 Santa's are carrying Putz glitter houses.  These are old and not perfect but that makes them all the more precious.  These are smaller one's then the one's I am used to seeing.  They are the perfect size for these Santa's.

The detail given to these Santa's are so great.  This Santa has a curly wool sheep hat and cape.  It is crossed in the front and tucked into this belt.  The 2 buttons are vintage marcasite buttons.  I have sewn  all  my life and I have never seen anything as pretty as these 2 buttons.  They do not show as good as I have hoped they would, but take my word, they are beautiful.

All the Santa's are carrying, handmade goose feather trees.

I have a few touches that I have to add  to them to make them the most special they could be.

If you want to see what happens to them, go on over to my facebook page and check it out.  Make sure you like me while you are there.

Til next time.... DK

Old German Santa's

Old German Santa's on their way.

I have been busy for several weeks make faces and painting several heads for Old German Santa's.
There will be about 5 when I am done. with them all.

I also will have smaller Santa's.  He will have a sled and he will come with a vintage reindeer.  He may be mounted.  I have not figured that out yet.

Here is my facebook page where I do a lot of selling from.  I give a Sneak Peek there, before they go to ebay.  I have nothing on ebay right now.  All my Snow People have either sold or the bidding is done.   What is left over I just might go to a local sale.  Even in the summer.  They will be marked down from what they were listed on ebay.

Here is mu facebook page,  DK Vintage Holiday  Come on over and take a look and LIKE me.

This walking Snowman was really a big hit.  I will be making more of them.  It takes a while for the paper mache to dry.  They are so sturdy but they are NOT toys.  Mose of them contain German Glass Glitter and should not be given to children.

This Santa and little child will have to try to reproduce him.  So many people loved him.  It was one of my best selling faces.

La Befana, the Italian Santa.  People just loved her.  Have to make more.

Stay Tuned for Colored Chicks & Colored Rabbits.

When my sisters and Uncle were younger, we would see the colorful chickens they had at the             5 & 10 cent store.  They were the most beautiful Easter colors. Real Chickens, in spring colors.   We wanted them all.  I have a really funny story to tell you but it will have to wait.   Sorry....  I have to work in the morning.

Good Night ,   DK

Mushrooms for Good Luck !!

                       Mushrooms for good luck.

How come I did not know this?  No wonder I don't have good luck.  I have to make some of these babies.  Oh yea !!  Here we go.  Look at the red, yellow and blue mushrooms that I made for gifts this year.  they came out so great!  How can I not have good luck now !  I wish, I wish.

I also wanted you to see my La Befana.  She is the Santa Lady that visits the children in Italy on January 6.  She leaves Candy & Cookies in their shoes.

We always called it " Little Christmas" when we were growing up.  I wanted to show you my La Befana snow lady that I made. Her hat is made from a vintage quilt. She has a  faded red flannel    cape.  She had a vintage bell hanging from her hat.  The bells sound so much different then they do now.  I move a Santa or a Snowman, and I can hear the difference of the bells they have out now.

She was crusted in ice from the heavy winter snow and ice in the January months of Italy.

This face does not look cold though.  This face look happy and glad.  She radiates a glow about her that just make you smile and say Ahhh.

This little lady made her home out in California.

That is all for right now.  Talk later.  DK

Happy New Year Everyone

                          Happy New Year Everyone !!

I hope everyone had a wonderful New Year.  Ours was very quite.  A good meal , some home made wine and help cleaning up the kitchen.

I have been working on my favorite ornament, the mushroom.  I can't wait to finish them and get them up on the Blog.  They came out so beautiful.  I made the first one for my No # 1 Grand daughter, Katie Bug.  She picked it out and I got it finished for her before Thanksgiving.  She has it on display, and I think she was very happy with it.

She was home for New Years and she critique my Santa's and then decided what Santa face she wanted and what material she wanted me to use on her Santa.  We worked on some toys together, so there will be some history with her Santa.   Katie Bug is 9 years old.

This is the face she picked out.  I was happy because it was one of my own sculptures.  The little Jack In The Box is now at Katie's house.  She liked it so I gave it to her to hold onto until her Santa is done.

Keep an eye out for the Mushrooms.  These mean Good luck in Germany.  They always had the mushroom on their trees.  Maybe you will like to get one for your tree.  I will be making them in pastels also.   ( Special Order )

Ok, back to the mushrooms.
