Beautiful broken ornaments !!

Broken Ornaments.........

Oh no!!  I just broke Grandma's ornament.  So sad.  What do I do now?  The mellow color of the blue ornament was unimaginably beautiful.

  How many times has this happened to you?   I just, could not throw it away.  It was too precious to me and my family.  It was a wonderful piece of Grandma!

 I grabbed the ornament pieces very carefully and put them down into a glass jar. It was a vinegar jar so the top was tiny. I had to break up the pieces to get them in.  When I turned the jar onto it side I was able to pick out pieces of Grandmas ornament. 

 I did not really like breaking the pieces to get them into the glass jar. So, I decided to get a larger mouth jar. This gave me much larger pieces to look at and remember. 

 

  To get the pieces to sparkle more, I put some Mica flakes inside the bottle. BAD IDEA !!!  The very fine pieces stuck to the side of the bottle and it made everything look cloudy.  

 
 I did not like the cloudy look and did not like I had to break up the Christmas bulb more.  So, I went looking for another wide mouth jar, that I liked.  

 

 

This is a sugar dispenser that a restaurant would have.  It was too big. Also, the ridges blocked the view.

This is a salt shaker but, with the line design on the sides of the glass, you could not see your broken bulbs inside.

There are bulb pieces in each glass..I did find salt shakers that were clean and smoothed. They have a chance.  I will make one and post it to my Blog. 
Making the transfer.  You could see the mica flakes sticking to the sides. It was not good.  It blurred the brilliance of the bulbs. I have larger pieces of bulbs in this.

This is the 3 inch, paper clay head I was going to use on my jar. You do not want to seal the lid because other accidents will happy.  No matter how careful you are. I was going to glue him onto the lid and put a collar around his neck. Looks like he belongs on this top.   

He is kind of saying, oh oh !

Here is the idea but just short of time to do the whole project.  Christmas is over and people will be wanting to take things down soon. Not us Glowers though !! We can keep them up all year.









 

 

Hold onto all your broken pieces.   




 We can  make a Snow globe, with the broken pieces inside.  The pieces have to be smaller to float and this container would have to be sealed.  You will not be able to open and put more in.  If you have a lot of one color, you can put them together.  Myself, I like them mixed. There will be a vintage bottle brush tree for the pieces to fall onto.  These pieces will be medium pieces. 



 Another idea is to use the glass pieces as glass glitter.  This is where German glass glitter came from.  Broken bulbs or bulbs that did not form right were ground up and used as decorative snow or ice on other things they produced. This can be used in many ways on your platforms that Santa stands on or ice on a wagon. 



Another item I felt you can use your crushed glass bulbs for was to put them in a clear hollow glass bulbs.  There are several different sizes and shapes. The small ones could be filled with a broken bulb and then tie a beautiful velvet ribbon on it to hang on the tree. You can add to this or put a cork in it to seal it up.

So everyone, hold onto your broken pieces of Mercury glass beads,  old ornaments, and even if someone broke a piece of your crystal.  These can all be preserved in other ways.
